Bringing Meaning

Christ as Salvator Mundi Framed

The premise of the modern world is that new things will save us or lead us where we need to go. And yet what is often missing is old or ancient things that have persisted over time and therefore might educate us on how to persist and endure.

The Art

William Avery Fine Art specialises in paintings from 16th and 17th Century Europe depicting subjects from the Bible.

These paintings have hung in homes for 400 to 500 years. They have – improbably – survived plagues, fires and floods, and brought meaning to their owners over the centuries.

Today we are surrounded by digital images but starved for meaning. With these artworks we can reconnect with the stories they tell, and the meaning those stories hold for us. By hanging one of these paintings in your home, you will carry on the tradition that began with their first owners centuries ago.

William Avery Fine Art is a carefully curated collection of Old Master paintings, based in London. William studied History at Princeton University, specialising in Renaissance Art History, and later held a Fulbright Scholarship in Ancient and Byzantine History at the University of Vienna. His expertise in Northern Renaissance art was deepened during more than a decade living in and around Bruges, the heart of Flemish painting.
